It seems like as of April (and coming up on May) 2021, the Demon's Souls remake is pretty dead. I could be mistaken on that, but from what I've seen there aren't as many active players as there were around launch. I think this can probably be blamed on a number of things - (1/2)
ranging from the lack of availability for PlayStation 5 consoles (scalping is still prevalent, sadly). I also think that one could potentially blame the lack of new content in the remake. While I applaud that the remake is so faithful to the original name, I think that - (2/3)
something myself and other long-time fans of the series were kind of hoping for was the addition of new and interesting features, such as locations or story elements. A lot of people, prior to release, were hoping that the unused archstone known as the "Northern Limit" would be -
added to the game, finally realized after over a decade. While it might not have aligned to FromSoftware's initial vision of what the location was supposed to look like, thematically, that doesn't mean that the idea had to be thrown out completely. However, even though we are -
now several months into the launch of the game, as well as the launch of the newest console generation, it doesn't seem like any collaboration can be expected anytime soon. It's not that the game is bad, it's simply that it's just the same game from 2009, just re-realized. -
Those two reasons are why I believe it has seen this decline in player activity. One final thing I will note is my disdain for some of the, admittedly, kind of pointless name and dialogue changes that were made. For example, they, for whatever reason, changed -
the iconic "Turpentine" buff to "Pine Resin," which is the mainstay name that the item adopted in every game following Dark Souls (with the exception of Bloodborne). They also made these kinds of pointless changes to certain NPC lines, that of which come across as strange and -
incorrect. I can recall countless moments during my playthrough where I was expecting a character to say a set of words that I had memorized after hearing them repeatedly, only to be confused because of there being a pointless discrepancy in the dialogue over the original.
Anyways that's all I have to say for this thread. And yes, I fucked up the numbering.
