I spent some time with people who use "The Passion Translation" and realized why it's so popular. The "Relationship, not Religion"-type evangelicals love TPT because they finally have a New Testament that says some of the stuff that they believe the New Testament is really about.
It's incredibly frustrating to be convinced that the Bible is all about developing an intimate and personal relationship with "Daddy God" and your best friend Jesus... and then sit down to read through, let's say, 1 Corinthians or James.

Trust me - it is - I've been there.
The Passion Translation finally gives them a Bible that says the things they're already sure it must mean.
Of course, it just adds all that stuff without any textual warrant, citing supposedly Aramaic meanings & manuscripts. But most Christians don't have much of an idea about how the Bible comes to us anyways. TPT just exploits that to give this sort of evangelical the NT they want.
