Let's talk about Ludwik Fleck. Fleck was a Jewish doctor who was born in Lwow, Poland. He was an assistant to Rodolf Weigl, a typhus specialist, prior to the Nazi occupation of Poland. https://twitter.com/QueenMab87/status/1387458768359858183

Under the Nazi occupation he was first confined to the Jewish ghetto in Lvov. In 1941 there was a typhus outbreak there - Fleck wrote "That typhus should quickly spread in these circumstances was no wonder".

He knew first hand, as a doctor, that the German policies were *designed* to increase the spread and fatality of the disease. He himself survived the outbreak and was later sent to Auschwitz, then to Buchenwald.

In 1942 Germany was suffering significant losses of soldiers on the Russian front to typhus. It was determined that they needed a vaccine, and there was a vaccine laboratory at Buchenwald. Fleck was assigned to work there along with another inmate, Marian Ciepielowsi.

Not only did Fleck and Ciepielowski develop an effective vaccine, they also managed to sabotage the German army. They produced a completely ineffective fake vaccine and sent that to the German front, while clandestinely making the real vaccine and distributing it to inmates.

The two of them undoubtedly saved many Jewish lives at Buchenwald through vaccinating the inmates, and probably saved countless more at other camps by withholding vaccines from the German army, shortening the war and hastening the liberation of the camps.

In summation - shut the fuck up about vaccine documentation being anything like the Holocaust.

His vaccine was developed using the urine of typhus patients. When the Germans called him in to ask if his vaccine would also work on German soldiers he mocked them, saying "I suppose if you used German piss it could save German lives." They didn't get it.

The director of the vaccine program at Buchenwald was named Erwin Ding-Schuler, who Fleck called a "dummkopf". He initially assembled a team of "doctors", many of whom had simply lied about their credentials and experience to advance themselves.

His team, including a politician and a gym teacher, followed a set of instructions that involved, by any rational definition, torturing both humans and animals to grow typhus bacteria in the lungs of rabbits. It didn't work. So Ding-Schuler lied about it, then brought in Fleck.

Fleck immediately pointed out that what the "doctors" had identified as typhus germs were actually lapine white blood cells. He told his colleagues, and then did NOT tell Ding-Schuler. Instead, he pretended to fix the process while developing the real vaccine.

Fleck said that the Nazis in charge of vaccine development "looked into their microscopes and continuously misunderstood what they saw. There was no individual author of the error. The error grew out of the collective atmosphere."

At the Nuremberg Trials he said "We made a vaccine that did not work. [Ding-Schuler], the illiterate, didn't realize what was going on."

At the trial of the Nazi doctors, when they found out that they had been tricked and the vaccine they had used on themselveswas bogus, they were shocked and outraged. They accused the inmates of violating medical ethics. They were laughed at by the observers.
