Please read a short story of how we lost our trust in our PHO in BC : The (fully vaxxed) leader of public health decides that vaccines will get us out of the pandemic. Vaccinate by age down, assessed to be the most vulnerable to severe illness. We are told: a 'normal summer'

Children are not eligible for vaccines so they will be protected by vaccinated adults, or they will acquire immunity through illness, mild in Covid-19 pre-variants of concern.

In order to do this, they must ignore the new VOC's which come along and pose a danger to the young. The variants P.1 (which kills babies) and B117( cause severe illness in children) arrive in BC. We are told: 'variants come and go' and we 'watch them carefully.'

Thus ignored, and without restrictive measures, the variants B.1.1.7 and P1 are allowed to spread, schools are kept open, cases go up in schools. In order for schools to be safe, we must ignore Long Covid. 10-30% of children with Covid will have Long Covid. Switzerland opens a clinic for children with long Covid. Increasing case numbers threaten hospital ICUs. We are told: we will get measures. They are distractions. The media play along: Travel Restrictions are confusing! Corduroy restaurant ignoring! Playland! Young people not following the rules!

We watch Nova Scotia go into a full lockdown to stop transmission and get down to Covid Zero. We are told: this is "unrealistic" and "draconian."

One day, a baby dies. We are told: the baby had an underlying condition. It was the baby's fault.

Twice weekly, the press are invited to ask questions of the PHO and Health Minister. We are told: Our goal is to "minimize morbidity and mortality" They state the increasing numbers and the ever decreasing ages of the dead. We express our condolences to their loved ones.

How do these stories end? How does gaslighting stop working? We cannot wait for the history books to condemn this leadership. The @bcndp will never hold power in BC again, but we are years away. We do not mourn the preventable deaths of babies lightly.
