Here comes that promised tweet thread.
So what is non-binary and what does being non-binary mean?

First of all, non-binary is a vast umbrella term for anyone who does not fit completely within the cis binary.
It& #39;s not any single thing, so there& #39;s really no such thing as "looking non-binary." How I look and present myself will be different from other non-binary folk.

I& #39;m gonna back up a second and explain the different identities a bit.
There are binary trans men and women, non-binary trans folk, and non-binary folk. Not all non-binary people identify as trans, but there& #39;s space for us if we do. We& #39;re the white stripe in the flag.

There are non-binary folk who are genderfluid, bigender, pangender, agender, or some variant on femme or masc where they partially but not fully identify. They& #39;re referred to as being demigender.
How people identify and feel about their gender varies. When in doubt, ask.

I& #39;m agender. I& #39;ve never felt like I had a gender and knew this back from my teens. I just didn& #39;t know it was a thing and had a label. I went back and forth and was in denial and finally came out in October.
I also identify as trans cause I don& #39;t identify with my AGAB.

AGAB = assigned gender at birth
You& #39;ll also find people who identify as non-binary but from the perspective of a different gender than they were assigned. They are non-binary trans masc or non-binary trans femme.
Elliot Page is an example.

Different people have different pronouns, and pronouns are not gender identity. A lot of non-binary folk use they/them like I do but some are comfortable with some or all pronouns. Some even prefer neopronouns such as xe/xem, ver/vers, etc.

We LOVE it when cis folk put their pronouns in their name or bio and offer them up cause it normalizes the notion that not only are pronouns != presentation or gender identity, but it prevents us from outing ourselves if we don& #39;t want.
So normalize that shit, and thanks.
