If anything, the cognitive dissonance that the diasporic Indian community is experiencing (US = opening up! vs. Indian health infrastructure crumbling) is like a canary in a coal mine/Cassandra effect: We should ALL be freaking out about India to not do so is hubris 1/
In the same way other countries looked at US, other parts of US looked at NY and thought "so sad, but that can't happen to me"; yes, obviously, very recent history has proved it can. Besides the obvious fact that people "over there" are still PEOPLE who deserve care and dignity
Borders are meaningless. Yes, symbolically. But also very practically during an airborne pandemic. People travel, this virus travels. Are we vaxxing enough people? Not just here, but everywhere? Are we making sure O2, PPE, meds are available everywhere?
