A thread. I have listened to Scott Morrison’s speech on ‘identity politics’. He seems to believe freedom depends on morality (and morality depends on God). Whereas, I believe freedom depends on our secular institutions—on the Constitution, courts, and representative government.
Scott Morrison seemingly wants to downplay differences based on race, sex, sexuality, etc. The problem with this is that if you downplay race, then you downplay racism; if you downplay sex, then you downplay sexism; if you downplay sexuality, then you downplay discrimination.
Scott Morrison says we should not outsource our morality. I agree. But, to me, this is precisely what Scott Morrison does: he outsources his morality to his version of ‘God’. And, to me, the God of the Bible isn’t particularly moral.
