We launched a new video yesterday, but as @OttawaHealth has shown us again and again, sometimes tweets are the most fun.

So! *ahem*

Was the #COVID19Vaccine research rushed?

It’s thread time! 🧵⤵️
Let’s set the stage first, shall we?

We are talking about #mRNA-based vaccines specifically.

When those vaccines were making headlines last fall, there was a lot of chatter about their speedy development and the newness of the technology.
That chatter made some people wonder if the whole process had been a little *too* quick.

It’s understandable! And it’s okay to ask questions.

But! While using #mRNA like this is fairly new on the market, it’s actually not a new idea. 🚫💡
Side note: Need a refresher on what the heck #mRNA is, anyway? We’ve got you covered 👉 https://cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/52473.html
Right. So.

Researchers have been working toward this type of #mRNA technology for ages.

Every surprising study, every failed experiment, every paper published—in the world of science, these are all small steps of progress.
And the story behind this #mRNA technology involves hundreds (thousands!) of researchers from all over the world who made these small steps of progress over years and years of hard work.

All of this laid the groundwork for the #vaccines we have today.
So, no, the #COVID19vaccine research was not rushed.

Those previous decades of scientific discovery might not be the most visible part of the story these days, but we wouldn’t be here without them. 👇
To be fair, we’ve only been talking about #mRNA vaccines.
But all of the options approved by @GovCanHealth are great. đź‘Ť

If you have questions about which one is right for you, talk to your health care provider.
