Okay so I'm going to breakdown what happened in the FL legislature last night when they passed the transphobic bill and what you can still do about it (not much, but there is SOMETHING).
1) The stand-alone transphobic bill, about banning trans kids in sports, died in committee

This was like 2 weeks ago, because EVERYONE turned out overwhelming against it.
2) The last 2 weeks have been floor sessions. Committees are over, now it's just a matter of floor votes for all those bills that passed through their committees. Tomorrow (Friday) is the last day.

3) A bill SB 1028, about charter schools, passed through its committees and was on the floor.
So @KayleeTuck2 slapped an amendment onto this bill--entirely unrelated, mind you--to ban trans athletes from sports. At 4:38PM yesterday

4) Last night (legit after I went to bed so sometime after 9), the legislature voted to pass SB 1028 as amended.
Since public comments are only allowed when bills are in COMMITTEE, this bill as amended on the FLOOR received NO opportunity for public comment.
Since public comments are only allowed when bills are in COMMITTEE, this bill as amended on the FLOOR received NO opportunity for public comment.
So the legislatures in the Florida Senate could not muster up the votes or courage to vote for this transphobic bill when the public was there to speak out against them. Instead, they waited until the public was barred from commenting and slipped it in on the senate floor.
Now, what you can do:
Unfortunately the answer is: rely on DeSantis.
His number is: (850) 717-9337
His email is: GovernorRon.Desantis@eog.myflorida.com
Tell DeSantis to VETO SB 1028. It was amended undemocratically in the last 3 days of session and passed during the night.

If the legislators are so scared of public opinion against one of their shitty, transphobic bills, and can only pass it when they won't be held accountable by the public, maybe that means they shouldn't pass it???

You don't even have to speak to anyone--if you press "2" it goes straight to voicemail (I tried 1 at first but it put me on hold lol)
You can see me wonder if I should even talk about transgender kids and appeal to that because, I mean: DeSantis. Feel free to phrase it however you want; appeal to whatever you think will work on him.
