songwriting is so complex. and reading and watching some of the interviews where joon has talked abt it recently,,, i had to write down some observations.

Let's think about this. he is credited on almost every song on BE but still said none of his songs made it to the album.+
this is keeping in mind that his contributions to the lyrics of each song aren't small and aren't limited to just lyrics either. but the reason he doesn't feel they're "his" is obviously because the origin of the song is not from him. and so it's clear that he is exceptionally +
talented in emoting, in putting himself in another's shoes and writing someone else's story for them. i believe this is where his linguistic abilities shine. when he focuses solely on capturing the emotions of the artist in the right words. a job of a traditional songwriter.
he said that "fly to my room" was the easiest to write maybe because he wasn't going to sing it. and i suppose he feels unburdened by his own thoughts and can purely focus on how poetic and sonically pleasing the words are.
but then comes a contradiction. when the song is not yours, sometimes u might not be able to relate to the theme at all right?
he explained that when he talked about "friends". His awareness of how thoughts become music is incredible because let's be honest, he could've +
probably done a decent job of writing that song. but he knew. he knew that the sincerity wouldn't be the same till the two people who's very person story is being told are involved.
moving onto another complication when writing songs for a group is that the listener listens to the song with the thought that any lines that aren't rap verses, represent all seven of the members. which is true ! but in reality, it's the same person writing those lines
and his own rap verse. so how does he find a balance ? how much of his own thoughts and feelings can he put into the lines that will be perceived as the group speaking and his verse that will be taken as his own opinions ?
he needs to find that delicate middle ground as a writer
and that is *not* easy.
there are ofc always lyrical challenges. Not only does the phrase have to be poetic, but also has to sound right on its own, and in the context of the whole song. it should match the flow and sentiment. There are words that need to stand out and others that need to blend & flow.
like the first line of boy with luv, the catch phrase of home, the enunciation in "I cant hold ya" line of My Time, the lines in LGO.... Just a few examples of how much work goes into perfecting each phrase. tens of hundreds of variations of the same line.
#RM writes a lot. he is constantly creating, constantly penning down thoughts.

he writes for the group, he writes his solo songs which are to be released in a group album (which take a whole different thought process), he writes for other members solo songs in group albums and +
also writes for their solo songs that they will release personally and then finally he writes his own, personal solo music while also composing, producing and engineering songs.

he juggles all this while being the leader and member of the biggest band in the history of music.
not to mention the pressure of responsibility. and though it is well known that big hit chooses the lyrics democratically. the best gets chosen regardless of who wrote them, the fact that joon has written so much of the band's discography says a lot about his skill & ability.
he gets chosen from the best of the best, over and over again.
I write this a day before we get new music from him because he is an inspiration. he shows that it's possible to be multidimensional and to not limit your scopes. he has mentioned creative blocks but him being him, he's still giving us new music. I'm so very proud to be a fan.
idk if anyone will read all this but if u did, you're so awesome 😅 apologies for the typos I just had to get it all out because this is one of those topics that u always think abt and feel abt but never write about coz u don't know how. I hope it made sense 😅
let's blow the numbers thru the roof for this collab. knowing how much he pours into what he creates, is enough motivation to do so <3

this !! this is exactly what I mean when I say that he's *constantly* writing, constantly pouring out ideas. some fit some song and some don't fit any at all. don't is beautiful, sorrowful but hopeful at the same time and these lines fit perfectly. https://twitter.com/iIlejeons/status/1388064662495776769?s=19
