Here is a brief description of what to expect when drawing a kimono in formal attire. (The formal attire is a silk kimono. A wide silk obi is used and an obi cord is tied on top of it.)
The common people focus on ease of working, so walking around outside with their breasts shaking it is not a problem. It's suitable for wearing comfortably and doing farm work or housework. They can easily breastfeed their babies anytime, anywhere.
Cleaning and farming are also important jobs for Miko (& Priestesses), so the miko costume is also an everyday wear.
Upper class women usually wear formal attire, so their breasts and waist need to be corrected. It is taboo to go out in public with breasts on top of the obi, breasts hanging in front of the obi, or breasts sticking out at the sides.
Women with large hips need to make their breasts and waist thicker to match the width of their hips. If a woman walks out without correcting her body shape, she will be judged as lazy and sloppy. This also applies to commoners in formal attire.
Seshomaru's mother is dressed in upper class attire and her breasts appear to be completely nonexistent.
Sarashi (the white long cloth that Towa used under her shirt) is used for correction. It flattens the breasts (breasts crush) and thickens the waist.
Today, there are breasts-crushing bras on the market, but there are also people like Towa who use sarashi or sports bras as breasts-crushing items. The correction is to make the I in the alphabet from the shoulders to the feet. This is called the "I line" in modern times.
In order to wear a Japanese kimono beautifully, you need to do the opposite of what European women did when they wore corsets in order to wear beautiful dresses.
