Re the media report on #Iraq’s “plans to import gas from Syria”: It was not accurate reporting. See statement below from Iraq oil ministry followed by some comments.
Iraqi oil minister said during a meeting with his Syrian counterpart there were discussions over “future vision as to how to benefit from Egyptian surplus natural gas and transport it via #Syria.” ( I have some questions about this). 👇🏼
Now, as to the infrastructure and how this would happen, no details were provided. Did they discuss the Arab Gas Pipeline, or renewed talks about that pipeline from Iran through Syria and Iraq- this is all unclear. Talks about the latter took place at least a decade ago.
I asked the oil ministry. Will update this thread if I hear anything.
Back to how the news was carried: the first questions that should have been asked in my opinion, and before publishing: does Syria even have the capacity to export gas? And how? And what about financial sanctions.
