The fact that Laurie so deliberately ignores context to push a narrative is typical.
Jürgen Klopp has had five transfer windows with us. Laurie would have you think nothing has been done in that period to bring in new midfield players. Laurie, as usual, is peddling faux outrage. https://twitter.com/LFCLaurie/status/1387346186030489600">https://twitter.com/LFCLaurie...

In 2016-17, we brought in Gini Wijnaldum. Gini was 25 at the time. Laurie doesn& #39;t want to count Gini because he spends a lot of time drawing Xs over his face. But seriously, he& #39;s JUST JOKING. Presumably, Laurie wanted more midfielders then, and not a new forward or center-backs.
In 2017-18, we signed 22-year-old Naby Keïta. Leipzig insisted on keeping him for a year, so we got 23-year-old Ox. I promise you, Laurie wasn& #39;t calling him rubbish then. Presumably, he wanted more midfielders then, and not a new left-back, van Dijk, or another forward.
In 2018-19, we got 24-year old Fabinho--and Naby arrived. Presumable, Laurie wanted MORE midfielders, and not Alisson.
Now we& #39;re entering the danger zone. We signed no midfielders in 2019-20. WHAT WERE WE THINKING? Fabinho had missed TWO GAMES. We should totally have shitcanned Naby& #39;s career and got ANOTHER midfielder, especially after a dismal 97 point return and a sixth Champions League trophy.
In 2020-21, we doubled our crime and ONLY signed Thiago, who I promise you Laurie didn& #39;t think was a bad investment. Presumably he wanted more midfielders? No. He called our summer window "unbelievable business."
Therein lies the problem. Laurie isn& #39;t an idiot. He& #39;s as intelligent as he is adept at reading--and playing to--his audience. He& #39;ll tell them we should& #39;ve spent more than we did, knowing full well how much we DID spend, and on what--and what this global pandemic did to finances.
