On april 28th a gay couple in Latvia was attacked. Normunds Kindzulis, a 20 year old man, was set on fire and died from the burns. His boyfriends also got burned while trying to put off the fire. It was first announced as a hate crime.

Now the police is trying to cover it up by saying that Normunds was mentally ill and that the incident was a suicide. Normunds was an emergency medical professional. His friends and relatives are protesting and trying to get justice for Normunds, get the police to do their job.

His closest friends say that Normunds wasn't suicidal and even if he was, he was a medic and wouldn't set himself on fire. Latvia is one of the most homophobic countries in Europe and this tragedy only proves it. For now there is not much we can do but let's hope for the best.
