New from me: Did the Raleigh PD’s former “officer of the year” frame over a dozen local residents as heroin dealers?

A lawsuit says there’s evidence he did—and that fellow cops knew and didn’t do anything about it. RPD declined to comment. #ncpol https://www.newsobserver.com/herald-sun/durham-news/crime-news/article250947614.html">https://www.newsobserver.com/herald-su...
All the accused have since had their charges dismissed by Wake County DA Lorrin Freeman. Yesterday she told me her office also, this month, implemented new policies to catch patterns of fake drug evidence quicker, and stop this from happening again #ncpol https://www.newsobserver.com/herald-sun/durham-news/crime-news/article250947614.html">https://www.newsobserver.com/herald-su...
The lawyer in the case has helped other wrongfully accused people before, like Kenneth Kagonyera, who Gov. Cooper pardoned recently.

Asheville pressured him into falsely pleading guilty to a murder, by faking evidence and destroying real evidence #ncpol https://www.newsobserver.com/news/politics-government/article247918730.html">https://www.newsobserver.com/news/poli...
In this new Raleigh case, none of the people were convicted since the fake evidence got exposed in time. But they still spent months in jail or lost lots of money for bail. Some got fired, one was a cancer patient, and one was jailed just days after his daughter was born #ncpol
