Tagging a minister, & one whose ministry portfolio is not directly relevant to issue & “getting things done” shows normal systems, institutions & processes aren’t working. Such action is short-term & can’t be sustained. Only entrenches personality-based governance, i.e. patronage
Sexual & gender-based violence(SGBV)can’t be resolved overnight via new laws/more policing. Root causes,i.e.patriarchy, sexism & misogyny in homes, schools, institutions & even books have to be addressed. Asking for more punitive approaches from an authoritarian govt is dangerous
Govt’s promise to address SGBV can’t be taken seriously if it takes action, such as plan to ban Burqa, that causes harassment of/violence against Muslim women. Be aware that diff identities of women,i.e.their ethnicity, religion, class increase/decrease their vulnerability to SGBV
