My approach to my writing career has long been to write as hard and fast as I can in the belief it's the only way I might make it a full-time job. I've gradually come to accept that that will likely never happen, and it's kind of liberating.
I still want to work hard, of course. But I feel better positioned to balance writing with other life stuff, accept that my full-time day job isn't going anywhere etc., and feel okay about just working on one book at a time without putting obscene pressure on it.
I mean, I still find it frustrating that lack of time means I can't write as much as I'd like. But I'm trying not to see that as a big disadvantage to my career and instead just focus on the work I *can* do.
