I think there's a missed point here in debate about Andy Wightman's credentials as a pro-indy candidate. The fact that he's more nuanced on this (independence as a means to localism) means that he's able to engage with the swithering middle in a way that others coming from 1/4 https://twitter.com/LustraSkye/status/1387678749064368135
a more directly nationalist perspective just can't.
For some the case for independence is primarily around national identity, for others it is an escape from Boris/Brexit/Tories, for others, it's a route to complete reset of local democracy - are any of these "wrong"? 2/4
If the end result is increased support for independence, then surely all who want that as an ultimate aim should welcome the mix of candidates, regardless of their motivations. 3/4
For me, having a candidate like @andywightman in the mix balances the alternatives like SNP and Alba, gives a home for voters looking for a considered option, including those who are yet to be persuaded of the full case for independence.
just my 2p!
