I’m so mad rn, I run a tik tok account where I debunk bad rumors and myth about Helen Keller and people are only now realizing, after neglecting the deaf, blind, and hard of hearing communities since 2019, after an able person bring it up. Wow, you all-
to take responsibility for your actions and are going on pretending like you weren’t being openly ableist for 3+ years. Some people on tiktok even took the time to turn of duets, stitches, and comments instead of deleting the ableist posts and apologize to-
the hurt communities, some of you refuse to see yourself as ableist and it’s disgusting. If you made Helen Keller jokes, block me, I am a proud member of the hard of hearing community and I stand by Helen Keller, she did more than most others during her time-
Towards marginalized communities that she wasn’t even part of. The fact that y’all couldn’t take 2 seconds to google a rumor about Helen Keller and be able to see that she was a great person is disgusting. What makes me even more mad is the fact that people-
still refuse to listen to these communities and still continue to neglect the fact they are ableist is really painful. I’ve struggled with my disability since the first grade and this tiktok and twitter trend sent back these communities hundreds of years.
It’s like telling black people that lmk wasnt real even though there are thousands of sources saying exactly what he did. I am utterly broken and disgusted that I had to live through a time where some people will hear the fact that I’m hard of hearing and-
Assume that I am unable to live like a normal person. I’m tired of seeing everybody neglect the disabled communities. It’s not fair. We deserve rights and respect as much as other people.
People to this day continue to make these ableist jokes and get away with it, Wheres the same energy as Black Lives Matter or Asian lives matter or lgbt+ lives matter? Why is that we constantly get pushed to the side?
I emphasize this everyday that having a disability does not mean you are any less of a human, that you are any less deserving of respect. Ableism is so normalized that people continue to turn a blind eye to it
I know nobody is gonna see this thread beacuse ableism is so prevalent in today’s society. Don’t call yourself and “activist” or “sympathizer” when you pick and choose which types of people you support.
It’s hurts my heart that I will have to live and group up in a society where people won’t have patience enough to understand that I have hearing loss, to understand that accessibility is such a huge issue.
All I’ve wanted since the 1st grade was to be treated like a normal person, to not have the kids make fun of me for my disability support devices. I hide my disability, this shouldn’t be the case in 2021.
Please b00st this thread, I’m tired of living this way, just like Asian people, just like black people. We all are tired. If you don’t support all of us, you don’t support minorities in general.
