since singapore is making tracetogether mandatory for everything starting from june, this thread is worth reading
the tl;dr is that voluntary contact tracing has become mandatory and is being used as possible avenues for surveillance, not to mention just being a battery drain https://twitter.com/kixes/status/1384566577685688325
while no one doubts the effectiveness of contact tracing, the drive for data collection and surveillance is rather concerning
and the more pessimistic of the critics believe this might stay as a post-covid measure
at the very least, i question the need to open bluetooth up because i can only see it as a security risk for bad faith actors and a waste of battery
so you’re just gonna have people either refusing to use the app, just having dead phones they can’t charge, or have no mobile data
suppose people are willing to give up their privacy and phone battery, i still can’t imagine the logistics behind tracetogether working esp thanks to its shaky beginnings
oh well, i hope the bluetooth “issue” is patched out as that is my main concern >_>
