Out today in the Lancet.
A comparison of countries with eliminationist vs. containment strategies shows that those with a systematic strategy to suppress the virus rather than living with significant levels of virus, do better.
They have far less deaths
Their economies do better (overall, eliminationist coutries are now showing growth).
They have less restrictions on civil liberties (those who let things run out of control have to impose harsher longer restrictions to get things back under control).
Overall, the message couldn't be clearer: there is no tradeoff between life, liverlihood and liberty.
Those who act early and decisively to eliminate COVID are able to open up more fully and quickly to the benefit of all.
