Tonight, U.S. Senator Tim Scott honestly told the American people that "America is not a racist nation." That is, of course, his opinion. Some may disagree. I do NOT disagree, because the evidence is compelling that we are not. There is a debate raging throughout our country "

2/ about Critical Race Theory. At the heart of this view is the claim that there is rampant "White Supremacy" in America, and that it is "systemic." President Biden has made such a claim. He did so tonight. I am happy that Senator Scott refuted it.

Nations are defined by their

/3 ideals; and they are judged by the efficacy of and compliance with those ideals. In our case, individual liberty and Equality for all are the true measurements of American greatness. If we fail to defend those ideals, we cheapen them and we deny our children and grandchildren

/4 the opportunity to pursue happiness through our national legacy of Equality and individual liberty. That is why CRT is so dangerous, and that is why each of us should strongly reject the reckless and unfounded claims of systemic racism and White Supremacy. The claims are made

/5 with little regard for the validity of such assertions and/or the consequences.

Former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard recently called attention to the harmful effects of this heightrned emphasis on race. She, although a Democrat, was right to do so. I echoed my view in support

/6 of her position. One individual responded about her with a disparaging word, and me, by implication, with equal venom. When asked for specific examples or evidence of systemic racism, the response is simply more general claims and a refusal to seriously engage.

That the

7/ overwhelming majority of Americans reject this dismantling and radical transformation of our nation, I have little doubt; but, if we fail to mount a vigorous defense of our nation, and ourselves as its guardians, the results can be catastrophic.

I want to live my remaining days in a nation where the hue of my skin is no more relevant than the fact that I am very hair-deficient, almost bald, or the color of my brown eyes.

Those who embrace CRT often equate outcomes with evidence of inequality. The fact that the NBA is predominantly Black is not evidence of racism, nor is the fact that Blacks are not commonly identified with computer programming.
