also, some cool news you might not know about for everybody!
wales’ highest peak is known as snowdon/snowdonia, but there are efforts being made to officially use its real welsh title, yr wyddfa. the welsh language has been in decline for centuries (1/??)
after english sovereignty outlawed the language. in fact, it was only in 1992 when the welsh language was given the same rights as English was!
welsh people in history were commonly punished for speaking it, an example being the ‘Welsh Not’ in schools, where students would be punished if they spoke welsh by being handed a sign of some sorts with WN on it. the student at the end of the day holding it would be (2/????)
severely beaten. that’s not even including the effects the industrial revolution had, where welsh had to be abandoned in many cases in order for people to be able to pursue their ideal job opportunities. these days, children are taught the welsh language and you’ll overall (3/?)
be able to obtain resources here for anything in both English and welsh. this might seem random, but trust me - welsh stuff is specifically ingrained into my vtuber identity! wales is a place full of lots of weird little stories and is a place not many people even know so (4/?)
i’d love to be able to share these little things to tell more people and help them learn about the place i love. it’s a funny little language, but wales is a funny little country, and i’d love to be able to tell everybody about it more.
tl;dr, hell yeah, yr-wyddfa and wales is a super duper neat place with little cultural intricacies and traditions that make it extremely different from England
