Hi Peter,

Responding in a retweet to allow a longer thread.

So although my initial response can easily be summed up as......Yeah, Nuh.

A response that you can take back to @ANZCA will need to contain just a little more nuance.

My attention was first brought to this App a few https://twitter.com/PeterWJHarrigan/status/1387546282835603460
years ago by one of my daughters (she rolled her eyes as she told me, clearly indicating disapproval).

So let me preface the remainder of my response by stating the fact, that this thread is ONLY my opinion. I hold NO elected office, and certainly no elected office among
Indigenous Australians. I have a Constituency of One.

So if anybody disagrees with my evaluation, they are entirely welcome to do so.

Benefits (as I see them):-

The App can be a useful source of information to the user, and may assist an Event Organiser, who hoping to arrange
a Welcome to Country for their upcoming event.

Particularly in our present COVID world, it may also be convenient for a Traditional Owner (especially Elders) so that they can have a pre-recorded message for the upcoming event, as they may have many invitations, and also to
avoid our Elders being needlessly exposed to large crowds of people who have flown in from many places, some of which we may then discover in subsequent days be declared COVID Hot Spots.

Downside (as I see it):-

The substantive issue for Indigenous Australians in our modern
world is the ongoing distance (Physical/Emotional/Cultural) between us and other Australians. An example of this distance can be illustrated by looking at the Destruction of the Juukan Gorge Rock Shelters by Rio Tinto 23rd of May, 2020.

After the event, many Journalists made
genuine attempts to hold the Executives of Rio Tinto to account by asking them why they destroyed the structures, and whether or not these Executives had failed to comprehend the value of the site to the Puutu Kunti Kurrama and Pinikura People.

However, had a journalist met with
traditional owners, and learnt just a little about these ancient structures, it would have vastly changed their perspective.

The Destruction of these Rock Shelters were not just destroying ancient Indigenous Structures. But it was destruction of possibly the most ancient
structures which had been shown to have a direct connection with human beings who are alive today (ie DNA showed an artifact, which contained platted hair, was demonstrated to have a direct link with the present day Traditional Owners).
The Question to the Rio Exec at the time should have been:- "Mr Salisbury these structures have been in use by the Puutu Kunti Kurrama and Pinikura People for 46,000 years. When the Great Pyramids at Giza were under construction, these shelters had already been used by Humans
for over 41,000 years. So why as a Human Being, did such ancient structures NOT matter a Damn to You?"

A Welcome to Country is an opportunity to bring proximity to the relationship other Australians have with Indigenous Australians. It is an opportunity for other Australians to
see the stories of my people as Human Stories.

Our proximity to other human beings, vastly increases our desire and capacity to act against poverty and injustice.

In summary, if organising a Welcome to Country is simply there to tick a box - Sure, use the App.
However, if it matters to the College to be welcomed to a place, by a group of people who never surrendered their sovereignty, then use the phone instead, to make a call, to arrange a meeting of minds and spirits, and create proximity with an under-served portion of the community
