I do not believe Evolution didn't make money (it sold out!!! And it went on sale right after the NY market had just been to five other days of WWE events, which likely was a drain on everyone's $$. But it still sold out!!!!)

But if I did believe that, I have some guesses why:
1. It was very poorly promoted. Most of the matches didn't have anything to do with ongoing storylines at the time & Alexa vs Trish was a dumbass idea that got a lot of build but didn't happen (Thank God!)
2. WWE did not advertise it on television with commercials except during their own products. Even mid size PPVs usually get TV ads, don't they?
3. They did it in New York, which, even at Nassau Coliseum, is fucking expensive. The travel, hotels, and production is pricey.
4. The merch selection was good but it could have been better!!! There weren't a lot of meet and greets or photo ops the day of, if memory serves, either, and that's a big money maker. Trish and Lita do those conventions together because they make bank doing it.
5. The main event was bad and everyone knew it was going to be bad.
