President Biden talked about a lot of important things that we can all be excited about.

He’s making long overdue investments in the American people by finally asking corporations and the wealthy to pay their fair share of taxes, and putting forth a vision for the multiracial democracy we’ve been promised for centuries.

Democrats and Republicans for decades have been guilty of putting balance sheets before human needs — and while President Biden is blazing a new path — Nashville needs more.

We urgently need investments in Green New Deal union jobs to build the housing Nashville needs. We need Medicare for All so that we no longer decide which bills to pay because healthcare is so expensive.

Finally, we need to end qualified immunity for police officers so that we can pursue justice when police hurt the people they’re supposed to protect.

Tonight the president reminded us that the government isn’t some distant force, it’s us. I’m running to represent us, and finally give Nashville the kind of leader we need in Congress.
