Hidden within a Florida bill to ban transgender athletes from participating in female sports is an amendment to the NIL law that would push the effective date to July 1, 2022 from its current effective date of July 1, 2021.

Florida would go from a leader to a loser.

VETO THIS.
Florida put the most pressure on the NCAA with its name, image, and likeness (NIL) law. Now it seems as though the NCAA has imposed its influence.

This would be a shame for the state and for athletes who deserve their rights of publicity.

Don’t let this happen, @RonDeSantisFL.
In 2019, @ChipLaMarca, @CStaniscia, and I looked at California’s NIL law and decided there was no justification for a 2023 effective date.

Florida pushed the envelope.

Now, after other states followed, Florida falls back? I don’t get it. What an embarrassment that would be.
7 days ago: NCAA says it won’t punish schools in states with NIL laws.

Today: Florida sends a bill to @GovRonDeSantis that would push the effective date of its NIL law back 1 year.

This makes absolutely no sense. https://twitter.com/darrenheitner/status/1384821103957364738
