The 1910 Flexner report commissioned by the @AmerMedicalAssn is partly to blame. The report led to the closure of 13 historically Black medical schools. Anyway, I have broken down in tears during presentations when I give this stat. Imagine the hundreds of thousands of Black patients who would have been treated by these physicians. The loss is enormous.

This thread is why everyone needs to know the whole history of racism and medicine. The same reason Black people in this country have poor health outcomes is the same reason for the dearth of Black physicians & other healthcare professionals. It is not a mistake, it is systemic.
