During #MCO last year while doing spring cleaning I found these 3 guys lying in a box unsure what was wrong with them. Both the #Nokia 3310 & 8250, I recalled had nothing wrong with them and sent to KL to trade in for another phone back then. But seller said they were not working
I know for a fact that couldn't be possible because I was using it the whole time, and did a final check back then before sending him the phones. Nevertheless, I got back the phones and true enough both phones weren't working.
Anyway fast forward today, I open up the 3310 and find out what was wrong with it. And realized that the warranty seal has been broken. That goes the same with the 8250. Guess the board has been replaced and was sent back to me. This board had a few blown caps, so no fix for me.
For the 8250 after opening it up, I saw lots of corrosion that lead me to believe the board was a water damaged one. So after cleaning it with alcohol and did a reflow I managed to get it working again, everything worked except for the last row on the screen. So this job is done.
How I know it got replaced? It was due to the fact that I didn't had the tools to open up the phones back then, but I guess it's a little bit too late for that as well. Still a good experience being able to clean boards now.
The 7250 was given to me, as the LCD was broken as shown below somewhere over 10 years ago. All this while I thought if the screen is damaged like this, then it's time for a new screen. Replacing screen that time was expensive and even now it's still expensive. Anyway..

Only to realise that there's nothing wrong with your LCD but in actual fact it's the polarising film just gone bad. And to think the numbers of LCDs that got thrown away for nothing all these years. Goes the same with laptop and monitor screens #sigh #truestory
So this is how it looks like after removing the old film, notice that there are no longer scratches on it? And this took me about 3 hours to remove the previous residue along with 5ml of alcohol. Still not perfect cause I got tired of cleaning already. 😅
Next was to align the new polarising film, because the screen on this uses a 45° angle film and the one I had was a 0° film. I could rotate the film to 45° but it will take up more film and ended up being wasted. Should have listened to the seller when he asked me to add on.
So I decided to make do what I have and rotate it to 90° and basically now the screen is inverted. Indirectly this phone is now set to dark theme. After that did a clean up for the rest of the board before putting it back together again.
So once I placed everything back together again, power it up and it's now a working phone. Ear piece and camera doesn't work. Everything else works great. Don't think I'll put in more to get this fixed, but this is truly a worth while experience to be able to fix this phone.
So only managed to repair 2/3 which I think is fine. As for the 3310, probably will only be used as parts. May actually end up framing all these 3 phones together for memory or something. Anyway, that's all for this thread fix. Hope you guys learnt something #RightsToRepair
