Why I think cancel culture is might have the opposite of the intended effect (a thread)
Cancel culture is basically the modern equivalent of being ex communicated but because it's being enforced by powerless twitterati it's mostly just a boycott (I'm not referring to more extreme forms like deplatforming such as in the case of pornhub or Parler in this thread)
You can think of it like a predator full of energy and looking for the meatiest Prey at first. But as it starts to lose energy and the number of obvious targets starts to dwindle it starts attacking anything that draws it's attention regardless of whether or not it makes sense
To cancel that particular person or organization, soon enough it becomes impossible to predict who's next on the chopping block, this reverses the asymmetry and makes woke brands more vulnerable since most of their followers/fans are woke and therefore likely to ride the mania
Wave, meanwhile anti-woke brands who were the predator's favorite meal become less affected since most of their fans aren't woke.
