this might be a long thread, but if you can read it i& #39;ll be very grateful. this is coming from a mexican who has lived her whole life in mexico.
just this year, a lot of controversial things have happened not only on my country but in latin america as a whole. i& #39;ve been on stan twitter since november and i have never encounter an educational thread or seen any of the news getting any recognition here.
and you all might say, well... if those things are happening to your community, why is no one raising their voice about it?
the answer is incredibly simple and scary.
discrimination, police brutality, femicides, criminality and corruption are things that we have to live every single day, regardless of where we are or where are we living.
at least in my country, people have so normalized these type of things that they just stopped trying to educate and raise awareness about the topics that affects us, because "no one will listen anyways".
the change will start within the new generations of the latino community, and the youth is trying their best to change the way the world percieve us. unfortunately, the history has condemned us.
in front of the eyes of the whole world, we are are so stereotyped that it& #39;s hard for us to try and change that. at least mexican people are always treated as if they were some sort of criminals, drug dealers, rapists or kindappers. this is not alright.
latin america is a region full of hard working people who are just ruled by mediocre politicians. we deserve respect and love as well, we are not trying to hurt anyone and all we want is for people to believe in our community.
what happened with mario gonzález is just the tip of a big iceberg. he wasn& #39;t doing anything wrong, the police man said it himself "he is just scaring my wife".
he was not doing anything other than existing.
the fucking stereotypes for being latino killed him.
there are not many of us raising our voices because some of them are tired, but please listen to the ones that we are because we are filled with hunger of change.
it& #39;s not an easy task, but we will get there, eventually. i see how hard the new generations are fighting.
since you are here, please educate yourself about what& #39;s goin on in Colombia as well https://twitter.com/dicklacelt/status/1387383707904970757">https://twitter.com/dicklacel...
this happened just this week and just reached stan twt TODAY. please people from all around the world, help us to raise our voice. we need you all more than never. https://twitter.com/mikeswoolhat/status/1386729134890553345?s=20">https://twitter.com/mikeswool...
