The reality is, that handgun came from the same smuggling and trafficking networks as a US sourced one.

Just like the Danforth shooter, who obtained his through his brothers gang with strong gun smuggling ties. https://twitter.com/tps_32planner/status/1386769144868126721
As was demonstrated in the documentary, the gun traffickers get most of their guns from the US.

Just because one particular firearm was domestically sourced, doesn’t mean that criminal would not have still had a firearm if all handguns were banned in Canada.
Let me try to explain, the illicit gun market obtains 90+% of its product from smuggling.

They have a supply chain to feed the demand. More demand, more supply. Price fluctuates based on the ability to feed the demand.
Most of the supply is US based, and is a known asset. They know roughly how many they can get into the country each month.

Domestic sourced guns are an unknown asset. Straw purchasing of handguns is very rare, and sellers are usually caught after maybe a dozen or two AT MOST.
Stolen handguns are even less of a known asset. They come completely out of the blue based on luck, and usually are supplied by drug users who came across them during a routine B&E. Targeted break-ins occur, but are rare.
The point of this rant, is that a gun trafficker cannot rely on straw purchased or stolen handguns to feed the demand.

Domestic guns become a “bonus” to their supply, and their only real impact is to fluctuate the price.
Those buying the guns are still getting them, and would have even without the domestic sourced ones. They may have saved a few bucks if domestic sourced ones made their way to their trafficker.
This thread focuses ONLY on handguns. Long guns are a completely different beast.

It’s awful that kid did that to you. I’m glad everyone went home that night and he went to jail. I’m also sorry to use your post as a catalyst for this rant, but it just “triggered” me I suppose.
Our system on handguns is pretty good, in my opinion. I don’t see there being any noticeable change in gun deaths or crime should they be banned.

There are far greater holes in the system that should be getting the attention handguns and AR-15’s are.
