Got moaned at for one of our shows being £10 in, most of them are less than that. And honestly I’m stunned at the constant devaluation of art and music. I was paying £6 for a local band show about 15 years ago, the costs for artists have increased yet people expect frozen prices
Honestly, I feel the greatest crime of streaming hasn’t been how little they pay artists but how they have changed the public attitude to make art almost entirely devalued. Combined with social media all art is now just content.
Art is special. It creates a catharsis that only a few things in life can. It is an integral and beautiful part of life. Content is what you see everyday all the time. To reduce art to just content, makes artists sound like they are charging to come see an advert.
It couldn’t be further from the truth. Artists create unique experiences every time they play a show. No two gigs are the same and what you’re paying for, is a contribution to allow them to continue creating these experiences that so vastly improve quality of life
Resist the commercialisation of art. STOP
