So @ToppsDigital x @WAX_io published a response to product criticism (kind of), telling customers to 'read the fine print' & jabbing Dapper Labs

Spoiler alert: They did not read their own fine print.
I can't believe what I read

A Breakdown

TLDR: Wax said opening packs was not time sensitive. That was untrue.
Wax disseminated misinformation
Blamed Topps
Blamed customers for not reading smart contracts
Said this shows how Wax is superior to @flow_blockchain bc it's a "public blockchain"

So what's the deal here?
Some Legendary collectibles were limited to ONLY the first 2,500 people to open premium packs
Topps didn't disclose this on the website & Wax repeatedly told the Discord community there was no advantage to opening packs earlier
Their explanation:

Their explanation:
This is a pretty big mess up. Not totally catastrophic. But somewhat big.
In response, Wax released their own statement.
The first 5% is a launch recap.
The other 95% describes the error.
IMO the statement is more disturbing than the error.

You can't:
1. Blame customers for not reading the fine print &
2. Ignore that you were the source of the bad info
Wax's official position appears to be: "customers should read the fine print to avoid the misinformation being spread by the company's own community managers"

They also pushed a lot of blame on Topps
I wonder what the Topps people think of this
Topps has let Wax handle most of the communication so far, I wonder if that'll continue

It's kind of....strange(?) that Wax used the explanation of the error to state its superiority to Flow.
This is the concluding paragraph.
This is the concluding paragraph.
The statement has not been well received so far among those that read it.

There are other fairness/transparency issues bubbling as well, we'll see how/if they decide to address them.
These would be more significant if true, but it's unclear.

This isn't to say the drop has been a failure at all. There is plenty of demand & prices are only going up
However, Topps' lack of involvement & community investment concern me.
This project has made millions, I hope they re-invest it in improving & growing a community

My takeaways:
It's not shocking that there were hiccups in the drop.
BUT the published statement was jarring, just reading it made me very uncomfortable
I wonder if there's more to come
Prices are doing well, I'm hoping to see more infrastructure soon
