LRT: America is the only country in the world that requires an industry to simply talk about what’s on your mind. It’s such an infuriating individualistic cultural profit thing LOL
The same way companies like TurboTax lobby the govt America has a tax professional industry to tell you how much you owe the govt where other govts just send you a bill
Anyways you should be able to genuinely communicate how you’re feeling or what is troubling you to strangers in the community and not have it be a weird over sharing thing
Asking “how are you” to the restaurant owner I was eating at in Mexico to be “polite” for him to tell me about his problems and his divorce while I ate pasta was incredibly refreshing. We should be able to vent whenever we need to vent
This thread was me speaking in ideals, not undermining the value of therapy in the world (US) we live in today. I’ve been in therapy since I was 9 it’s the only reason I’m alive lmao. Go if you have the means and don’t be afraid to seek help ignore the stigma
But it shouldn’t be ideals. It should be. The same way mental health entered the mainstream through marketing and speaking up, it should be done at the ground level too. Start by asking how people are, really. And if you’re asked don’t do the dismissive polite “I’m good/fine.”
Will you come off too strong/ familiar?! Idk maybe! But you’ll feel better, and even inspire someone else to open up to you too. Be attentive when listening and honest with your feelings ok bye
