Everybody, the last episode of the Boring Talks podcast is one of the greatest episodes of our life. First, I’d like to thank the producer @doranelli, I’d like to thank the contributors, I’d like to thank illustrator @JackBrougham and I’d like to thank the BBC.
Of all episodes of the Boring Talks podcast, today’s particular episode will remain with us the longest, because not only is it the last episode of the series, but it’s the last episode we’ll ever do.
Thank you.
And now a quick guide to all 55 episodes.
1) The End Of The World @steve_x
Happy to begin the podcast with a talk about the absolute end of everything. Seemed fitting

Discusses Uri Geller’s appearance in the comic ‘Daredevil #133’. Current price range for that issue on Ebay is from 0.49p to £19.50
3) Yellow Lines @Andr6wMale
This is the only talk to mention The Festival Of Britain and Slough.
4) Wooden Pallets - Liam Shaw
A Boring Talks fan favourite.Very popular. Luke the producer had two pallets taken from a skip outside his house this month.
5) Model Villages @MrTimDunn
I still haven’t been to Bekonscot model village, but do hope to go someday.

The first of Louise’s record THREE appearances.
This talk has outlived the actual Argos catalogue, which was discontinued in 2020.
7) Green Belt Land @Grindrod
Mentions dogging.
8) Danish Public Information Films - Claire Thomson
Denmark is a small country.
9) Sounding Gestalts - Laurence Jordan
For those who’ve always wondered what a cravat would sound like.
10) Lampposts - Ellie Herring
Are you for or against lampposts? Perhaps the best question we’ve ever posed in this podcast.
12) British Earthquakes @rhodri
Producer Luke has lived through two recent earthquakes in Bedfordshire. It felt ‘like a rhino had run into the house’
13) Basalt @Annebalme
We couldn’t resist doing something about rocks, especially the most ‘boring rock in the world’.
14) Name Change
This actually happened.
Nice cameo appearance by @driscolltheque
One podcast reviewer described this episode as ‘Python-esque’.
15) Smell Walks @katemclean
First episode to use location recordings. Kate smelled inside a bin.
16) Toilet Roll Serial Numbers - Nicholas Tufnell
‘Do you recall the fogged beef mate?’ arguably the best line in the entire podcast series.
17) Gasometers @GasometerGal
Everyone loves a gasometer.
18) Kinder Egg Linguistics @KeithKahnHarris
I think Keith has expanded his study into the linguistics of the Kinder warning label. Follow him to find out.
19) Ice Cream Vans @alisouthsea
One of our most popular talks. Made it to Radio 4’s Pick Of The Week.
20) Carry On Shakespeare @SamiraAhmedUK
Lovely to have Samira Ahmed do this. A love letter to the Carry On Films really.
21) Thank You
Contains a list of great words.
22) Toilet Graffiti - Scott Kelly
1st of series two.
Contains lots of grade A swearing.
‘What are you looking at?’ – we think the graffiti from the toilets in Broadcasting House has since been removed.
23) NATO Phonetic Alphabet @CharvyNarain
The first, and only, episode to mention Bradley Walsh.
24) The Taxonomy of Cornflakes - Anne Griffiths
Recorded entirely on location in Anne’s studio, which featured cornflakes mounted on the wall.
25) Jeremy Bentham's 'Auto-Icon' @littlegaudy
I believe can still visit this curiosity today, if you wished (covid restrictions permitting).
26) Call Centres @LouiseAshcroft1
Talk number two in the Louise Ashcroft trilogy.
Possibly the longest actual talk in the whole series.

Another beauty from Andrew Male.
Here is the picture - https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/paintings/jan-van-goyen-a-windmill-by-a-river

More brilliance from Tracy King.
Begins with a really bad pun that I think I made up.

The first talk to be delivered by two people - Florence Schechter and Emma Parkin.
Find more about vaginas at https://www.vaginamuseum.co.uk/
30) An Underwhelming Christmas @rhodri
Rhodri Marsden returns, getting unfestive. A good opportunity to use lots of Christmas production music.
31) Happy new year
Surely everyone saw in the start of 2019 with this podcast.
32) Roads That Don’t Exist @roads_uk
A lovely talk. Luke has a memory of being driven about late at night in his pyjamas. As a child, of course.
33) Change @Pecnut
Despite Adam Townsend’s talk, there are still no plans to introduce a £1.75p coin.
34) Sounds Of Grassroots football @paul_whitty
I think this is the longest episode. Primarily due to the 20 minute long field recording at the end. Beautiful.
35) How Tall Are Celebrities? @themanwhofell
How many other podcasts have an episode where the host is measured during recording?
36) Shanghai Architecture @hancam14
If you’re missing walking around cities, this could be the podcast for you.
37) Watergate Tape 'Silence' @sophiescott
This podcast is six and half minutes longer than the 18 and a half minutes of silence that Sophie is talking about.
According to Luke, one of the most fun to produce due to all the tape sfx and whirrs and clicks and brrrs.
38) Markham Moor Roof @edcarter__
The only episode to include a real swanee whistle.
39) Doormats @futureshape
I don’t actually have a doormat
40) Thank You (again)
Lots of good numbers in this episode.
41) Pencils @mackenwells
Another fan favourite.
Luke has bought over 20 nice pencils after being inspired by this podcast.
42) The Lexicon Of Breakups @rosiewilby
Hear more from Rosie Wilby in her own podcast The Breakup Monologues
43) The Sounds of Computer Games Loading @keefstuart
As a fan of the ZX Spectrum, this was perhaps the most personal to make for Luke.
Contains the actual music from the game Green Beret.
44) Swearing: a personal cross-cultural comparative study of Hindi and English @CharvyNarain
A welcome return for Charvy Narain.
Definitely the episode with the longest title.
45) Box Certificates @alanquays
A real joy, and does the job perfectly of changing the way you look at something you’d previously thought of as very mundane.
Two genuine cardboard boxes were destroyed in the making of this episode.
46) Teletext @Psythor
Another lovely talk, makes me yearn for Bamboozle, Chart Cat and Debbie’s Diary.
47) Crinoline Ladies @SeasideFerry
Surprisingly hasn’t restarted a fashion trend for fancy toilet roll covers.
48) Data Centres - Matt Parker
All music and sfx made and recorded by Matt. One of the most atmospheric episodes.
49) Coal Holes @StokeyUpdates
Contains recordings made on the street where Malcolm McLaren used to live. It was a very windy day.
50) Windows @AnnaUlrikkeA
Lovely talk, despite all the mentions of defenestration.
51) Oboe Reeds @chloeveltman
The only talk to be recorded outside of Britain.
Who knew there was so much work in oboe reed production?
52) Breakfast Cereals @LouiseAshcroft1
The last of Louise Ashcroft’s triptych.
Nice to see the Weetabix skinheads get their timely appraisal.
53) Car Boots @hugo_griffiths
Took a while to find the genuine sound of a Ford car boot alarm.
Recommended by Alan Carr on his Saturday morning Radio 2 programme, which was nice.
54) Jigsaws @driscolltheque
An obvious topic for lockdown Britain, but lovingly realised by Anya.
55) Farts @Jenan_Younis
Going out with a bang.
You can follow @iamjamesward.
