I've been having some great mentoring-style chats with UG and MSc students who are thinking about #SciComm and #PublicEngagement as career options, so I've ended up creating a list of 'getting started in scicomm' resources, that I thought might be useful to share here too! đŸ§” 1/
Question I often get - do you need an MSc? No, but it helped me learn #scicomm theory and build confidence.
I did mine @edinburghuniv, but @SciCommsUWE @imperialcollege @sheffielduni and @ManchesterUniv all have great courses too

Non-MSc course options - check out @scottishscicomm who does intro to scicomm courses, and @STEMAmbassadors on FutureLearn. @SciCommsUWE do some modules online, and @Cambridge_Uni do a PGCert blended online/f2f
3/
Who does stuff? @PCSTNetwork and @BIGchats are two of the big group names in the field, fairly cheap membership (esp for students) and both run events. For more education focused, @theASE conference is great
4/
Building up experience. Would super recommend @GlobalSciShow to build up some 'doing' experience of online #scicomm, and @STEMAmbassadors for experience working with school groups.
5/
Finding out about stuff. @TheScicommer is my fav weekly newsletter rounding up the best in scicomm events and jobs. @psci_com really useful (but make a filter for it on your emails, its very active!). @BIGchats mailing list also useful
6/
What is stuff? This great guide is a super comprehensive overview of all the stuff that could be involved in #scicomm/PE

Another cool training/learning option - the new lifeology course!

Other cool things - I would recommend all of @xkcd books (especially 'What If?') as a great take on written scicomm. I use the #upgoer5 text editor all the time ( https://splasho.com/upgoer5/ )
9/
Don't forget to be inclusive! Check out @sciencelondon, @TheSTEMvillage, @LGBTSTEM, @STEMLGBTQYou, @lgbtqplusstem for events, resources etc
10/
This is no way a complete or perfect list, and I will probably come back and add to it (and will take recommendations for adding to!) but hopefully might serve some use to some people!
