/ @NiagaraRegion has a big road redevelopment in Port Dalhousie. Let’s start the conversation by considering these two photos. This is Argyle Street in Halifax now versus how it used to look, or how I remember it back when I lived there.
/ Is the new Argyle St a little more difficult for cars to navigate and does it force traffic to slow down? - Yes.

Is the new Argyle St better for pedestrians, cyclists, people who use mobility devices? - Yes.

Is it more beautiful and a place where you want to walk? - 💯
/ We could have our very own version of Argyle St in #StCatharines Regional staff are recommending a plan similar to this idea for Lock St and I think it is visionary.
/ The main road through Port Dalhousie is a Regional Road, and therefore a Regional project, but I am in FULL SUPPORT of the staff’s recommendation for a flex use area for Lock St. It would create a safe, pedestrian and cycling friendly stretch of road. It will be transformative
/ Car traffic would be rerouted behind Lock St through the creation of a 2-way street with traffic calming measures like a bump out. It is just an additional 300 m for a car to travel. https://greenactioncentre.ca/healthy-travel/traffic-calming-101/
/ We need better pedestrian facilities and bike lanes all over the city, and specifically in this stretch of Port Dalhousie, and I am shocked that people who claim to support active transportation & the environment are fighting to keep the status quo, which is unsafe.
/ As someone who bikes to the north end several times a week during summer with my children on incredibly unsafe streets, including very unsafe streets in Port Dalhousie, I will be advocating to my Regional Councillors that they support the staff recommendations.
/ Prioritizing cars over people, which includes building more roads, car lanes, parking, etc. for cars, will never solve traffic problems. Doing what we used to do in fact makes congestion worse. https://publications.wri.org/citiessafer/
/ The sooner we can all get behind the science and good planning around safe streets, the better off our city and environment will be. There is ample science behind this and I encourage people to do some research.
