Last night, I heard Clyburn stating that we need better hiring standards & better pay for cops. First, most cops make pretty good $ right now. Second, the problem in hiring is not standards but letting cops do the hiring & training. They hire who fits their culture. People who 1)

2) apply & don’t match their culture are not hired. The few who slip through the initial interviews are weeded out in the academies once they realize who is not in lockstep w/their culture. You have racist, brutal cops doing the hiring, the firing and the training.

3) If you have an independent citizen board that has one or two retired cops & citizens from the community they will be policing & you have professional instructors at the academy who are outside of the police force, that would help break that culture down.
