Heyo~ Your local Raging Feminist Kaiju here to share with you a thread on why *I* feel it is important that we #hirewomen to #continuethemonsterverse and address some of the negative comments I have seen by fans.

If this thread changes your mind-great. I am just speaking my mind
Firstly, I am a woman. I identify as a woman. I organized an anthology for other woman and non-binary individuals about loving monsters and monster movies. I have loved monster movies since I was a child. Acting as if no one cares about the gender of the director is silly.
My entire life everything has been dominated by men. Men's decisions on how women should look and act, on what I should like, heck, even genres that are aimed towards women are created by men. As a woman I feel isolated when I see a film about women by men.
Before I get into individual comments I want to address: people need to understand that the gender disparity in Hollywood is BIG. Women make significantly less than their male counterparts, they are held to a higher standard, and are given less opportunities!
It has NOTHING to do with their skill and everything with the subconscious gender bias in a man-dominated field. I haven't worked in film but as a woman in tech, a male-dominated field, I have my share of horror stories.
Yes, this is important to *ME* and other people who think similarly. Movies should be a vehicle to share different stories by different people and the fact that we lack this is the problem!
I mean, look at who we have directing the Monsterverse:

They are directing stories and characters with what they know. Why are some of the human characters lame? How are they able to understand how a woman or young girl thinks/acts?
In an ideal world but this is not how the film industry works. We need to be vocal about what we want otherwise they are looking for a big name to helm the next film. Since women don't have as many opportunities as men, they are less likely to appear "suitable"
And to wrap this up: It's about REPRESENTATION. Monster movies aren't JUST FOR boys or men. We need to give women film makers more opportunities. Women who see movies, like myself, want to see characters with relatable sensibilities.
This has been your feminist rant for today. TY for reading~
