how the Internet's internalised ableism is becoming apparent and is cancelling @GabbieHanna: a thread
1//
so with this whole @GabbieHanna v trisha paytas malarkey, people are mostly backing trisha. I can understand why: trisha is the first to call it out, she is saying the right things, and is getting videos/collabs out explaining the situation from her side.
2// executive functioning
for gabbie, it's probably quite difficult for her to get her thoughts out cohesively&quickly. she is also not getting help with that like trisha is, she's been appearing on a few channels defending herself already, gabbie hasn't had the same response.
3// social cues
not knowing one had ADHD until recently comes with not knowing that perhaps we don't always pick up social cues as well as the next person. this can be an EXPLANATION to quite a few things that have happened in which gabbie has been called out for:
4// the herpes incident, the @RiceGum incident.
from a person who has ADHD myself: I can empathise with both incidences in a sense that, my strong sense of justice means I WOULD tell a friend who was sleeping with someone who had herpes that I'm aware of such a fact/rumor.
5// I'd be protecting my friend from contracting an incurable STI, something that, if a person (trisha) DOES have, it is within their moral duty to say, and if they haven't, it is my moral duty as a friend to warn them on that for no reason other than to preserve afriends health.
6// though, it is something which allistics do find taboo. something I think is plain stupid, as it is a natural bodily infection, like covid, that SHOULD be talked about WITHOUT the threat of backlash.
7// social cues & @RiceGum
it is super easy and very common to misunderstand social cues, which I believe @GabbieHanna did at the party, which pissed ricegum off to the point he pushed her phone to the ground in anger. she did not understand what she did wrong, viewing it as
harrassment
8// @GabbieHanna 'bullying'
so the book review, it obviously punched gabbie right in the RSD. if you don't know what that is, my point exactly. they are beyond constructive critiques, and if you think that they're not, then you probably are a gaslighter. sorry.
9// refusing to hear gabbie out, denying that she can use ADHD as an explanation to her actions is ableist. cancel culture is toxic anyways, we know that, but really, if you ACTUALLY bother to read qualititative accounts of the experience of ADHD, you will realise a lot of things
10// I'm not going to tell you what you will realise, because tbh I feel like I have said enough here and I KNOW this thread will be met with arguments. argue all you like: this is my take, as someone with ADHD, on the situation. the truth is though, NOBODY will ever be able to..
REALLY know what it is like. we are on the Internet, hiding behind our screens. protected by anonymity and the ability to portray an image different to our true selves. though I think gabbies true self is portrayed: as she doesn't know how to portray anything else.
I may be wrong. you may be wrong.
what is right and wrong anyways? we all live our own lives, form our own opinions and sense of right and wrong. we are all learning. thank you.
