the fun part about these pieces is that the background is a video of my backyard i took weeks ago. the video went through a datamosh process, i trashed the i frames. playing around with colors and scrips, the background ended up looking like something i'd draw on ps
one of the hardest parts is still looping for me. i'm not looking for a seamless loop, but something easier on the eyes. alot of glitch art have loops some people might find overbearing, so i wanted to make a loop that was easier on the eyes
the biggest takeaway for me with these two pieces is how much i can manipulate footage i use. i have a nicer workflow after practicing these. i am able to spend less time experimenting/labbing due to the presets i have saved/written down
as i said before, i saw some glitch art over the weekend that inspired me to do some practice. the first piece doesnt have that much modulation in it but the second piece has a bit more. i've never modulated text before so i wanted to try that out
one problem i had is having layering up many effects/scripts. the fun (and stressful) thing about layering is that whatever effect is placed latest becomes the top effect. some effects and scripts work and/or look completely different based on the effects it's on top of
before the rendering process start, i would switch around the effects, pre-compositions, or settings just to see if any other combination look nicer/worse, w/e. this is the part where i tend to accidently find something i like and save it as a preset
i think these two pieces are a bit more subtle with the glitch effects. there isnt a heavy chromatic aberration, or much noise, etc., but i know i can add more stuff in the future because these pieces were like 4mb or something like that
conceptual wise, the background was something that just came about. i don't really have a meaning or motif while designing it, but after looking at the piece for awhile, it reminds me of some of van gogh's sketch works
some people have said that the background looks like clouds, or water, or fire. i personally like the ambiguity behind the background. the audience can come to their own thoughts and feelings about the piece
waffle's usual motifs are still here, but i want to push the screens narrative a bit more. working with subjects on ps and bringing them to ae isnt a problem, working on a background that matches with subject takes way more effort for me to execute
my favorite thing about these two pieces is the harmonization between waffle and the backgrounds. being able to bring in any medium and manipulating it in a way that compliments each stylistic choice is fun, but hard to explain. im scared this kind of content maybe off putting
