Let& #39;s start imagining your cellphone as a house.

A house in the neighborhood where you can pop in anytime.

You are the owner. You have the lock and key (read: phone lock) https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🔏" title="Schloss mit Füllfederhalter" aria-label="Emoji: Schloss mit Füllfederhalter">
When you unlock and step inside, you enter a common living room (phone screen) with a corridor yonder.

You& #39;ve catered the common room to your interest.

Your most-used appliances (apps) like a camera, phonebook, might be here.
From there you go to a corridor.

The corridor has entrances to different rooms (apps).

The small rooms will be filled with machines, people, galleries, depending on whatever they are here for!
When you click on apps like To-Do apps, fitness apps, you& #39;re going in a room with huge machinery.

You dial some dials, pop some buttons, see the scoreboard, do some calculations or write on the board (read - to do list).
You note stuff of your life in that machinery to make it better.

But no, you aren& #39;t going to spend your day here changing dresses (avatars) or paint color (UI) to make those aesthetics better.
:p
Checking mail is just like checking mail.

Gotta check once in a while if it has imp stuff.

Loads of unread mails mean an overflowing pile of letters in your garden.

If you have a huge pile, the hack is to read it once and then do it regularly.

(overflowing mail = HP)
When you click on a social media app, you go in a room full of people. WOW, IT IS SO LOUD HERE.
Twitter is like a room with many podiums and people going on that podium to speak with a loudspeaker.

Oh look, there& #39;s thousands doing that. You better find your voice :-p
Sometimes it is absolute chaos.

People pushing each other to climb the podium and say something, or throwing absolute nonsense of words but then, that& #39;s people, you know..
Would you listen and believe everything each person in a crowd says?

NO.. then don& #39;t.

Would you go to the podium, take that loudspeaker and climb up to speak what you& #39;re about to tweet?

No? Then Don& #39;t.
Twitter also has small groups and corners making valued conversations.

Your goal must be to find your way to them amongst this huge crowd.

Pull it to your advantage.
Right down the corridor, there& #39;s another room called Instagram.

Instagram is a room where a fashion show + presentation show is combinedly happening
When you sit in this room, you are either watching slides of people vacationing and eating or people walking a ramp walk in pretty clothes.

Oh, look, there& #39;s a small corner of politics too.
Suddenly it& #39;s getting noisy. You realize there& #39;s a floor above too. Let& #39;s take stairs and see what it& #39;s about.

It& #39;s Whatsapp!

Your every chat is a separate room.

You enter and boom, dish, boom, people from each room come with messages. You& #39;re swarmed!

(img- accurate representation family hanging out on WhatsApp group)
You enter one room and start talking to the person.

If you have notifs on and a group is buzzing, that& #39;s like one person knocking every second and telling you...HEY, LET& #39;S TALK.
If you& #39;re talking to 5 persons simultaneously, you& #39;re running between 5 rooms, for talking.

You& #39;re not conversing now, you& #39;re panting and tiring yourself.
If your whatsapp notifs are ALWAYS on, it& #39;s like having a person from this floor poke you no matter in which part of the house you are.

(too much socializing, I tell ya)
Facebook is that upper floor where no one goes often but there& #39;s so much happening.

There are people dancing in one corner. There& #39;s people with a podium telling gotten married.

There& #39;s some people on the side selling stuff. Phew.
Let& #39;s talk about some modes.

If you have notifications with sound (absolute worst) on, that& #39;s like staying outside this house, enjoying your life, but a helicopter hovering over you telling you THERE& #39;S SOMETHING TO CHECK IN THE HOUSE.

GET BACK!!!
(damn, that& #39;s distracting!)
If you have notifs off, but they come when you unlock, that& #39;s like having people from all rooms swarm you as soon as you unlock the door and set foot in the common room.

Still better (for me)!
If you have entire notifs off, means you will decide when you go to what floor to check what room.

Airplane mode means you& #39;ve locked the house, the terrace, everything, and no one can reach you.

The crowd better stay in the goddamn house!
Would you step into a room of thousand people screaming on a loudspeaker right in the morning?

No? Then you shouldn& #39;t be opening those social media apps right after waking up.

Would you want to be distarcted by a helicopter when you are working. No? Switch em notifs off.
This might feel like an exaggeration but the way phones have engulfed our lives, it is exactly this.

You can use this simulation to train yourself to use your phone less or just wow at the metaphor :p and move forward with your day.

The choice remain yours.
