Had a great tour of Indiana #strawberry farms yesterday thanks to @PurdueHortExt's @VeggieGuan. Here are some of the highlights: consistent troublesome weeds were perennial broadleaves dandelion, curly dock, and Canada thistle. 1/5 🧵
A post-harvest application of clopyralid went a long way in controlling these weeds, but hand-weeding was still required: 2/5
Mulches play a big role in weed management: 3/5
Occasional herbicide injury was observed from on-farm particle drift. The most visually striking injury was from glyphosate which results in its typical yellowing on the newest growth: 4/5
One more for fun. "black eyes" on developing fruits are an indication of cold/frost injury. Most will shrivel up and not produce a marketable fruit. Of course, early flowering/fruiting cultivars were hit the hardest. 5/5
