Using an adenovirus expressing N we demonstrate protection from disease and reduction in lung virus titers in mice and hamsters (WA and B117). By depleting CD4s and CD8s we demonstrate that reduction in virus load correlates with SARS-specific CD8 T cell numbers in the lungs. 2/3
We argue that memory T cells can provide protection and should be considered in future vaccines designed to provide broad protection, potentially buttressing against Ab escape variants. Work led by @willmatchett, @Vineet_Joag, and Michael Stolley. A huge collaborative effort! 3/3
