Rant, feel free to tune out if you want lmao.

I think it's time friends stop lying to others and giving false hope about singing. If you want your friends to improve, you *can* have the opportunity to communicate with them effectively about the areas they need help in. (Con)
Too many times have I seen people turn a blind eye (or ear in this case) because their friend *needs* to redo a line in a collab, chorus, what have you, but people are so afraid to ask for redos or give honest (not bitchy) criticism to the vocalist. (Con)
Now, that critique doesn't have to start off negative. Start with compliments to what they do really good in and work your way up. If the opinion wasn't asked for or it isn't the right time to give one, then yeah hold back. But too many times to I hear (Con)
"Yeah, I was super excited about this chrous collab, but I wish some of the vocalists could have tried harder/were replaced of they knew they couldn't do it, hit the notes, etc"

Like at the end of the day, this is your project. If a vocalist isn't blending (Con)
you have the right to tell them that. If they're you're friends, you should definitely be able to tell them. If you build this false narrative that everything sounds flawless, then you're leading them blind through future projects they may get into.
(Con) I'm not saying tear them a new one or anything, but I feel like there's been this stigma that just because you're friends with the organizer of a project, you're obligated to stay in, or you're immune from having teachable, fixable issues. (Con)
If you're a vocal only spot in a CB, then it should be *expected* that you need to work on areas to make the jobs of the mixers + support staff easier. If you just outright refuse to do redos or take criticism, then you have no business working in group projects.
(Con) Further more, if your friend comes up to and asks, "what did you think of my cover?" Be honest. It's definitely okay to be honest. Don't be a *bitch*, but be honest.
"You did well with the pitch and staying on beat, you've improved since your last cover!—(Con)
(Con) —I would recommend working on your vibrato a little bit because in some sections it seems a little unstable. Other than that, you're on the right path!"

Versus: (Con)
"Yeeeeah, this is okay I guess. Your voice sounds all shaky like your standing out in the snow barefoot with shorts on. Ya might wanna fix that."

It's all about delivery.

At any rate, TLDR: don't be afraid to help your friends. But don't be a bitch about it.
