Back in 2013 I was riding around Clifton with a buddy, we were crossing Mohatta Palace and I mentioned I'd never seen it from the inside. My friend says lets check it out. We go there and there is a guy selling tickets, we asked why is there a ticket if it is a public building
he explains there's some art show going on inside, uska ticket hai. I had no idea about art waghaira, just wanted to see the building, and the ticket was only 25rs or something so we thought ok why not. I walked into the palace and was immediately blown away by how cool it was
The art on display was by @RashidRStudio . The first thing I saw when I entered was this mosaic of Arnold made with small images of Lollywood heroes iirc.
There was this room with a cube in between, the cube had smaller cube shapes cut into it with mirrors and a cityscape
There was this room where two planes were being projected onto two different walls with a loud sound of planes flying playing, like they would eventually run into each other
There was so much cool stuff, like this Rothko inspired (I'm assuming) piece made with flesh and blood pictures
This isn't even a quarter of the total pieces there. The coolest thing I've seen in Pakistan, and I happened to see it by chance, and it just cost me 25rs. Fantastic experience. The best part is I didn't take any pictures, I didn't know if it would be appropriate
like are you supposed to take pictures at an art show? So I came home and sent an email to the artist talking about how much I loved his show and he sent me a PDF which included all the exhibits, which is where these pictures came from.
This happened 8 years ago so I may have misremembered a thing or two. I hope I get the chance to experience unexpected art like this again, and would love it if we had more art like this in more public places. Accessible and thought provoking.
