We have no power to shift what the BCCI does or to change the priorities of the billion dollar IPL. We do have the power to boycott it though. These players and this tournament is funneling valuable PPE, vaccinations, medication, ambulances and tests from the Indian public.
Will cricket journalists refuse to cover the IPL in solidarity with the Indian people? If London had no ICU beds left and people dying literally on the pavement outside St. Thomas's, would you not question the Premier League going on and players getting priority vaccines?
Can we get solidarity from @ajarrodkimber @GeorgeDobell1 @izzywestbury @barneyronay @AlisonMitchell @legsidelizzy etc etc? Is nobody going to call out this circus in the cricket community? Are we not making this a massive public conversation because the BCCI don't want that?
If this was happening in England, there would be conversations, thinkpieces, debates. But because the entirety of the cricket community is either scared of BCCI retaliation or uninterested in India beyond sports, the biggest voices against Trump, Johnson etc are here silent.
Why has nobody been writing about PPE shortage while the players have excessive amounts? Why is nobody writing about vaccine prioritsation? Are people going to look bad and be proud they stayed silent in the face of what is basically a genocide?
I hope the cricket journalists I tagged are proud of their silence.
