Wales’ 265,000 SMEs employ roughly two thirds of the private sector workforce.

Accessing the right skills is a huge issue for SMEs.

Today we’re looking at what the political parties have promised on the future of skills and development ahead of the Senedd election.

Welsh Liberal Democrats have pledged to:
📱Support businesses to take advantage of the digital revolution by providing training and support
👷‍♀️Establish a Job Creation Premium
🧑‍💻Invest in apprenticeships and training to support research, innovation, and address skills shortages
Propel have pledged that:
🐄🥕An emphasis will be placed on the future of farming as a way of life and career.
Welsh Labour have pledged to:
🧑‍🔧Create 125,000 all-age apprenticeships
🧑‍🔬Young Persons Guarantee, giving everyone under 25 the offer of work, education, training, or self-employment.
🖇️Expand Personal Learning Accounts to allow people to study flexibly and obtain new skills.
UKIP have pledged to:
📚Introduce Citizenship in schools which will focus on development of life skills
Welsh Conservatives have pledged to:
👩‍💻Provide 150,000 apprenticeships by 2026
🧑‍💼Create 65,000 new jobs in Wales over the course of the next Parliament
🍃Invest in at least 15,000 new green jobs
Plaid Cymru have pledged to:
👥Pilot a new Craft Expert programme for older workers to pass on experience to younger generations
📋Conduct a Ministerial review of post-16 provision
💹Create £6bn Green Economic Stimulus which will help create 60,000 jobs over the 5 year term.
Wales Green Party have pledged to:
🧑‍💼Support apprenticeship routes into work at the FE Stage
💻Provide new economic solutions and new jobs through the Green New Deal. More training and re-training, accessible to all with locally based delivery to supplement online learning
Reform have pledged to:
📚Make financial education a mandatory subject for all school children at GCSE level. The subject will compliment many other core subjects on the national curriculum.
