I was having a bit of a random ponder about AoS the other day. It is all in fantasy. Massive hats, gigantic monsters, demi-gods strutting around as basic infantry. Dials turned up to 11.
That’s not to everyones taste, of course, nor should it be. But one thing I feel the move to Age of Sigmar from Fantasy Battle has really done is given the traditional fantasy aesthetic in the Lord of the Rings line room to grow and expand without conflicting within GW.
The LotR and Hobbit lines are doing absolutely amazing things right now. The Forgeworld character releases are lovely. The quest books are bringing different parts of the line in and out of circulation, making older kits available again. And the sculpts are magnificent.
The game engine is possibly the best GW have ever written, and every game I’ve played has felt like a scene straight from the book or movies. And that, for me, is what fantasy battles are really all about.

Its lovely to see it getting a bit more time to shine.
I think the saddest thing is the sheer amount of wasted time and hobby enthusiasm that goes into not liking stuff, instead of gleefully rejoicing in the incredible range and options for stuff that we can enjoy.
“Do we really need x model?”

Someone probably does. Just because we don’t isn’t really a reason to bitch about it.

Though more pointy eared goodness would be nice, just saying ;)
I’d always much rather we have a bigger range of options for everyone to find something they love, including stuff not to my taste, than a tiny range of options just for me and to have an infinitely poorer, meaner, hobby.
Heh, I’ve got a bit carried away in this thread, which started off with me reminiscing about popping into GW stores and seeing tiny ranges of both WFB and LotR stuff with everything else 40k. Now there’s so much breadth and opportunity for all the systems to shine. Its grand!
